Chapter 22
Pipe Dreams
Kanapa Restaurant
Kyiv, Ukraine
March 13, 2025
Petra and Gregor sipped thick black coffee at the Kanapa Restaurant in Kyiv.
“Good to be back.”
“Bittersweet anyway.”
“So, which one of your important friends are we going to meet today?”
“You’ve already met him.”
“Zelensky?”
“No, more important than Zeles.”
Just at that moment their waiter sat down beside them and dipped down his surgical mask”
“Svarog! I didn’t recognize you!”
“That’s the point isn’t isn’t Gregor? You always were a little naïve.”
“So have you blown up any bridges recently?”
“Nobody ever proved we blew up the Kerch Straits Bridge. Just a coincidence it happened on Putin’s birthday.”
“And, did you have anything to do with destroying the Nord Stream pipeline?”
“How could a couple of divers pull off a stunt like that?”
“Well, do you believe this story about a hundred of Russia’s special forces shuffling nine miles through the methane filled Friendship Pipeline to get behind your lines and encircle Sudza?”
“I’ll give the Russkies credit on that one. I wish I had thought of it.”
“Really?”
“Yeh, but the real problem is that Russia sends over wave after wave of Korean troops. We mow them down but they are followed by battle hardened Russian troops that secure areas and establish new positions. It’s discouraging.”
“Did it make sense to attack Kursk in the first place?”
“Yes, it forced Russia to divert troops away from the Eastern Front.”
“But now aren’t you losing all that territory just before a potential ceasefire?”
“Ah Gregor my friend, always asking questions you know I can’t answer.”
“That’s my job.”
Petra interjected. “Hmm shall we order the Chicken Kiev?”
“If you want, but I’ll have the rabbit meat borscht. We always ate it on maneuvers. Not sure we’ll be able to find any rabbits, after the Russkies retreat. Their North Korean henchmen are particularly fond of our rabbits!”
“I’d recommend the root salad with a cheese topping and cherry dumplings for dessert,” chimed in Petra quickly.
