Notes From an Environmentalist; Trump and the Environment.
Trump and the Changing Climate
Many people are concerned that if Trump is reelected he will trample our constitution, pack the courts, eviscerate our democratic institutions and destroy our education and research institutions that are the envy of the world.
But what I’m most worried about is that Trump will reverse the progress we are finally starting to make on climate change.
While I’m not convinced that we can build our way out of our environmental crisis as Biden suggests, I’m willing to give it a try.
He has accomplished more for the environment in his past term than has been done by all the past presidents except perhaps Teddy Roosevelt. People are also better off and the economy is booming.
But many major corporations based on what is fast becoming the out of date petroleum economy that are upset and are directing vast amounts of money into Trump’s coffers.
What we need is not just four more years of Biden, but also several more decades of economic health and sustained progress to rebuild our infrastructure and transit to new sources of clean energy.
While we are in the midst of this, the largest and most consequential energy transition of human history, it is sometime difficult to see exactly how fast it is happening.
