Notes from an Environmentalist.
Parakeets in New York, Trump in the White House. Drought and fire throughout the land.
Over Veteran’s Day weekend I had the delightful experience of hearing and seeing a wild flock of emerald green Monk parakeets twittering and flying over a pond in Pelham New York. It is possible they had been displaced from their normal roosting place by an out-of- control wildfire in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.
It was an unexpected delight but also a reminder that every state in the nation except two are experiencing drought conditions and fires.
This could indicate we have passed another chaos creating tipping point that could upend the functioning of the incoming administration. {More on that later.}
Monk Parakeets also called Quaker Parakeets, derive their names from the grey plumage under their neck that reminded the scientist who named them of a monk’s cowl, similar to the reason for naming Hawaii’s monk seals for their holy appearance.
