The Skyline that Ansel Adams Photographed has collapsed.

Many years ago, I summited the Grand Teton after a two- day climb. A week later my mother did the same thing but on her descent the ledge she was on collapsed and she fell fifteen feet and broke her ankle. A guide stayed with her throughout the night while the rest of her group continued down to get help. It finally took three days, a helicopter and several courageous guides to get her to the Jackson Hole Hospital.

I was reminded of this when I read that the Grand Teton’s Second Tower had collapsed over the Fourth of July and continues to disintegrate further. Some attribute this to less snow and ice that helped to hold the mountain’s jutting towers together.
