NEWBURYPORT, Mass. —
Two people are in critical condition after they were pulled from the water in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on Sunday.
The Coast Guard said it received a call after two women were swept away from the shore. Fishermen in two nearby boats were able to pull the women from the water.

One swimmer, a 25-year-old woman from Lynn, was taken to Anna Jacques Hospital and then transported via medical helicopter to a Boston hospital.
The other swimmer, a 24-year-old woman from East Boston, was initially brought to Anna Jacques Hospital and was later transferred to a Burlington hospital.
"I want to commend the swift, courageous actions of the fishermen who pulled the victims from the water and got them to first responder personnel. The quick response and continuity of care when first responders took over was nothing short of amazing. This operation was a powerful example of interagency collaboration at its best, where training, communication and teamwork made all the difference," said City Marshal Matthew Simons.
The swimmers' names were not released.
